About Femi Nordic Knitwear

A woman smiling outdoors in a winter setting with snow, tall dry grass, a clear blue sky, and distant trees.

My name is Femi, and I’m the maker behind Femi Nordic Knitwear. My story with knitting began quietly, back in childhood, when I first learned to knit in class and instantly fell in love with the calm rhythm of yarn and needles. Life moved on, as it does, and knitting rested patiently in the background—until fifteen years later, when I picked it up again and realised it had never really left me.

It was during long summer days at my cottage, surrounded by the sea and the ever-changing light of the Finnish archipelago, that knitting became something more than a hobby. Wrapped in nature, I began designing my own pieces, inspired by the freedom, simplicity, and softness of Nordic life. Stitch by stitch, an idea formed: this was something I wanted to share.

And so, Femi Nordic Knitwear was born. Every garment is thoughtfully designed and knitted by me using a hand-held knitting machine, created slowly and with care. Made to be worn and loved all year round, each piece reflects my belief in slow fashion—where time, intention, and craftsmanship matter just as much as style.

I’m also honoured to partner with like-minded makers who share my commitment to craftsmanship, sustainability and quality. I source beautiful, hand-dyed merino wool from Cowgirl Blues, a women-owned and women-empowering studio in South Africa where yarns are dyed by hand and created with care for both people and planet. Their vibrant, responsibly-sourced merino and mohair brings life and soul to every garment I make.

I’m also proud to work with Hey Mama Wolf, whose merino d’Arles wool comes from a rare European sheep breed and is GOTS-certified for organic, ethical and environmentally-conscious production. This yarn is wonderfully soft, warm and sustainable, and its thoughtful origins align perfectly with the values behind Femi Nordic Knitwear.

Together, these partnerships help me create pieces that feel as good on the inside as they look on the outside — garments you can wear with confidence and joy, knowing every stitch has a story.

Femi’s Knitting

My knitting machine is a vital part of how each garment is made, but the process is never automatic. Every piece begins with thoughtful design and careful planning, ensuring the shape, fit, and structure are right from the very first stitch. As the fabric forms, each row is closely watched, adjusted, and refined by hand—tension is balanced, details are perfected, and nothing is rushed.

This slow, intentional approach allows me to create knitwear that is not only beautiful but made to last. By combining precise machine knitting with hands-on craftsmanship, I’m able to produce high-quality garments with consistency, strength, and comfort at their core. Every design is tested, worn, and refined, so what you receive is a piece that feels considered, reliable, and truly special, that is made to order especially for you.

Femi’s Values

Sustainability is woven into every step of Femi Nordic Knitwear. By producing garments in small quantities and knitting each piece myself, I avoid overproduction and unnecessary waste. I work with carefully chosen yarn partners who prioritise responsible sourcing, animal welfare, and environmentally conscious production. The goal is simple: to create beautiful knitwear that is made thoughtfully, worn often, and loved for years to come.

Ethical Practices

Ethics are at the heart of Femi Nordic Knitwear. As a small, independent maker, I believe clothing should be created with respect for the people, animals, and environments involved in its production. I work with trusted yarn partners who prioritise fair working conditions, responsible animal care, and transparent production practices. By choosing materials and collaborators thoughtfully, I aim to ensure that every garment is made with integrity—from the source of the fibre to the finished piece you wear.

Slow Fashion

Femi Nordic Knitwear embraces a slower, more thoughtful approach to clothing. Rather than producing garments in large quantities, each piece is carefully designed and knitted in small numbers, allowing time for quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. This approach values durability over trends, creating timeless knitwear that can be worn season after season. By choosing slow fashion, the focus shifts from fast consumption to meaningful pieces made to be loved and worn for a long time.

Thoughtful Design

At Femi Nordic Knitwear, design begins with curiosity and experimentation. Each garment starts as an idea—often inspired by the colours, textures, and quiet rhythms of Nordic landscapes—and develops through sketching, swatching, and testing. Different yarns, stitch structures, and shapes are explored until the fabric behaves exactly as it should. This process allows each design to grow naturally, resulting in knitwear that feels balanced, comfortable, and distinctive. The goal is to create pieces that feel considered and personal, where the design itself tells a story.
